Infectious diseases will increase significantly in the coming decades due to the climate crisis alone, according to infectiologists. Mosquito bites are always annoying, but can also be dangerous in rare cases: when potentially deadly pathogens are transmitted. In the south of France, for example, Zika infections caused by tiger mosquitoes native to the region have been reported several times. Dengue infections have already been confirmed in Madeira, Croatia and France. There have also been outbreaks of chikungunya in the Mediterranean region. The EU health authority ECDC recently warned of the increasing risk of mosquito-borne diseases. The Asian tiger mosquito<\/strong> is spreading further northwards and westwards in Europe. The number of affected regions in the European Economic Area has almost tripled within ten years. Unlike native mosquitoes, the white-striped animals often use small water reservoirs, for example in the saucers of flower pots, and are particularly widespread in urban areas - even in large cities such as Berlin.<\/p>
